Applications open for FuelAL 2025 summer intern experience

April 11 2025

AUBURN, Ala.- The City of Auburn’s Economic Development Department is partnering with the City of Opelika to provide FuelAL programming this summer for local college interns thanks to a grant from FuelAL, in partnership with Innovate Alabama — a talent attraction and retention program of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA).

Auburn-Opelika has been selected to participate in the initiative, which aims to showcase the state’s unique community assets. The program will provide students with professional development, service opportunities, mentorship and social events — focusing on opportunities available outside the workplace. Participants will learn how to serve, socialize and develop in the Auburn-Opelika community and will gain insight into what makes the area a good professional home.

"By connecting students with industries, communities, and career opportunities, we’re ensuring they see Alabama as a place to build their lives," said Estes Hughes, vice president of Innovation & Talent at EDPA.

Along with local events and programs, participants will be eligible to connect with their peers during two statewide Summer Summits. These fun-filled weekends will help fuel relationships among the interns based throughout Alabama and provide industry exposure across the state. The summits are scheduled for June 13-15 and July 18-19.

This will mark Auburn’s third year offering a program for local interns through a partnership with FuelAL.

“The Auburn-Opelika area offers incredible opportunities for young professionals,” said Trevor Cook, Auburn’s Workforce Development interim director. “Whether you’re exploring internship options or already have one lined up, this is a great time to start planting roots and making meaningful connections.”

Those interested in participating in the program may apply online now through May 31. For more information, visit the EDPA website or contact Trevor Cook at tcook@auburnalabama.org.
